kuching and sarawak

Kuching with its population of about half a million, is the charming, modern, capital of the state of Sarawak in Malaysian Borneo.

This is a friendly place with a laid back lifestyle. English is widely spoken and is often the language of business and contracts. International standard facilities help ensure a comfortable lifestyle.

The climate is tropical and perfect for winter sun with remarkably constant temperatures, typically low to mid 20's at night and low 30's by day. The South China Sea often provides cloud cover to act as nature's parasol against the sun. Monsoon rains might bring a daily downpour to keep everything clean and green and wash the car for free. We find it's not really too hot, especially once acclimatized especially if you don't have to work in the sun.

Though this is very much a Southeast Asian city, history provides Kuching with echoes of UK influence. We drive on the left and you might even see a Morris Minor or a Hillman Minx (ask your grandfather) still running about town.
