Introducing Kuching and Sarawak

Kuching with its population of about half a million, is the charming, modern, capital of the east Malaysian state of Sarawak on the green, tropical island of Borneo.

This is a friendly place with a laid back lifestyle. English is widely spoken and is often the language of business and contracts. International standard facilities help to ensure a very comfortable lifestyle.

The climate is just right for winter sun with remarkably constant temperatures, typically mid 20's at night and low 30's by day. The South China Sea often provides cloud cover to act as nature's parasol against the sun. Monsoon rains might bring a daily downpour to keep everything clean and green and wash the car for free. It's not really too hot, especially once acclimatized and if you don't have to work in the sun.

Though this is very much a Southeast Asian city, history provides Kuching with distant echoes of UK influence. We drive on the left and you might even see a Morris Minor or a Hillman Minx (ask your grandfather) still running about town. What's more, you might be amazed to see just how many  folks here support English football clubs.
